Catatan Bangkok 2

“Is this halal?” I asked the waiter at the Naj Restaurant as he placed the appetizer in front of me. He seemed a bit confused and then disappeared. Shortly after, he reappeared and apologized to me profusely. “It’s not. I’m sorry, but the organizer’s instruction was just ‘no pork’. I’ll bring you vegetables. Sorry.” Some of my colleagues began to make fuss, offering their portion of fish and vegetables etc.

Another waiter was pouring wine into our glasses, skipping mine because I had turn it upside down.

Tapi teringat pula saya kepada kata-kata seorang kakak yang pernah menjadi rakan sekerja saya, “We need more people like you in this company. Bila kita jadi leaders, kita boleh buat perubahan. Malah untuk perkara sekecil memperuntukkan waktu solat sewaktu mesyuarat.” Betul juga. We need more mukmin professionals in the corporate world to become decision makers: from internal policy, to media advertisements, community projects, recruitment, and much more, including to become role models to fellow colleagues and staffs as well as to the society. So, who’s up for it? Marilah sirami pohon yang sedang kering-kontang ini!
