Rubik’s cube
My brothers are currently into Rubik’s cube. Brother #6 and #7 said, Rubik’s cube is IN at their school now. The photo above shows part of their Rubik’s cube collection. They also have a 4x4x4 cube, but it's not in this photo. Brother #3 has been a regular since his university days. Some four or five years ago, he went to a carnival with many stalls, one of which sells Rubik’s cube. He picked up one and started solving it. Significant number of passers-by stopped to watch him. He was about to leave after solving that cube when the stall owner said to him, “Please stay!” :) Brother #4 has also recently picked it up.
Me? I haven’t got a clue how to solve this puzzle. Perhaps I could start by solving the 2x2x2 cube (see photo above, somewhere in the middle). But I do remember, when I was much smaller, perhaps at seven or eight, I tried to solve my father’s cube. Failing miserably, I cheated – by removing the colour stickers and re-sticking them. Sorry, Dad, for destroying your Rubik’s cube! Hehe ;)
It’s quite amazing actually. My brothers showed me some You.Tube clips of some Rubik’s cube competitions, and the fastest time recorded was something like 6 or 7 seconds! Isn’t that crazy? And they said that the youngest person to solve a Rubik’s cube is 4. Munief sempat lagi kalau nak pecahkan rekod ni ;p
The Rubik's Cube is a 3D mechanical puzzle invented in 1974 by a Hungarian sculptor and professor of arhitecture Erno Rubik. Isn't is supercool to invent something like this? :)

cian org skrg baru kenal kiub ni. Tahun 70-an dulu cukup popular benda ni. Sy dpt selesaikan 2 kali je masa tu. Bila formula hilang, langsung dh tak leh buat. Skrg anak sy pula main benda ni.
Dulu lps rubik's cube, tahun 80-an popular pulak rubik's snake. Skrg sy dok tggu gak kot ular ni nak buat comeback popular mcm dulu. Ular ni jauh lebih snang nak buat (utk orang2 bangang puzzle macam aku ni).
wah in trend ye? ingatkan dah tak ada dah..dulu-dulu ingat lagi masa sekolah rendah, kat TV asyik tunjuk benda ni je. suddenly tetiba tak ada. just fizzle out.
pst, mynie, aini pun pernah cheat juga main benda ni. alih sticker tu juga, ehehehe
mynie..sy pun mmg bengong juga bila try solve menda ni..tp i believe like all puzzles, when u get the rhythm, u can solve it anytime!tp yg murah punya mmg keras sket nk turn. kalu yg toy's'rus punye mmg lembuttt jer nk turn, tp a bit pricey.
suraiya,
yelah, 'org sekarang' belum lahir lagi tahun 70an tu hihi :)
rubik's snake tu apa ye? *pergi google* oh, camtu. eh, terjumpa jumpa sudoku cube. cool!
ummu auni afif,
skrg ni barulah terasa betapa 'meaningless'nya 'solve' the cube dengan cheating heheh..
nur,
betul, benda ni boleh belajar dan pick up, tinggal minat ke tak je.
ha ni mmg my brothers dok bincang jugak, pasal smooth dgn tak smooth nak pusing2 tu. kalau kisah nak set time, buat laju2, kena invest rubik's cube yang mahal kot..
i can solve 3x3 under a minute =]

mynie, it's nice to be able to refer to siblings brother #3, #4 heheh meriah!
---aku yang cuma 4 beradik....
musaf,
impressive.. siap ada tutorial lagi, boleh refer lepas ni kalau akak rasa nak belajar..
bas,
haha mcm ramai sgt jer.. brother #7 does not mean my seventh brother tau (i only have 5 brothers), just that he's no 7. tapi yes, mmg meriah dan best..
mynie, i'm sure u can do it kalau ada org tolong ajar technique dia... senang aje sebenarnya. Saya belajar from brother #5 (hehehe...tiru style mynie)... masa tu saya umur 8-9 tahun kot... Dia macam buat maths jugak, ada technique & procedure yang tertentu jugak. Makin lama, makin laju boleh solve, sebab dah banyak latih tubi....hehehe....
ummuahmads,
agree. tapi entah bila nak 'sampai seru'.. somehow masih kurang minat ;p
I love puzzles ;).
Suka bangat ngan Rubik cube but haven't got a chance to buy one for myself. Selalu pinjam orang punya jer. Bestnya Rubik ni sbb it taught me how to solve problems systematically + paling best is.. with lots.. lots.. of patience :P.
baiti,
kang pergi london, boleh lah beli satu di hamleys hehe :)
actually i started off late in elementary school... standard 5 or 6. got the hang of it by high school, even seniors drop by for solving lessons.
i don't remember the part where the stall owner said please stay. was that me?
zzeed,
yes, it was you. the stall owner's exact words bukanlah 'please stay', but something like, 'mainlah lagi, dik' or something to that effect :)
oh my. it's so long ago... i don't remember that at all.
well, after this rubik cube stalls should be able to employ myself + cb & ashbi to take those all sparks to great spin!
