A day at work
Boss: Mynie, you are going to Kuching only for daytrip? Morning fly in, night fly out?
Me: Err, yes.
Boss: What time is your presentation?
Me: Afternoon.
Boss: But you’ll miss the morning session. Next time, you should stay overnight, you should attend the whole forum.
Me: Sorry, boss. It’s the best I can do given the short notice, timing, and my constraints. (Read: I don’t want to be away from my kids any longer than I reaally have to.)
Boss: So, have you finished the forecast accuracy report?
Me: Err, no. I’ll try to do as much as I can today.
Boss: Today?
Me: Well, I have a course tomorrow and Thursday.
Memang tiada potensi nak jadi pekerja contoh. Argghh sudah stres bertambah stres. Stres stres stres. Stres yang menyenakkan perut, menyempitkan dada, dan menyedikitkan EBM (! err agaknyalah). Banyaknya kerja, sikitnya masa.
Dah tau banyak kerja, apasal sempat tulis blog lagi? MHH would ask me, it’s his alltime-favourite response everytime I complain about my workload.
This is not something I would normally do, but since I’m pretty desperate, I decided to try my luck and cancel my participation for the course tomorrow.
(by phone)
Me: Hello, C? This is Mynie. I’m calling about the Interpersonal Management Skills course scheduled for tomorrow and Thursday.
C: It’s today and tomorrow.
Me: What? Today and tomorrow? But I jotted down the dates as 21st and 22nd.
C: Well, it seems you are mistaken.
Me: But then, I miss half day already.
C: Actually, you had declined the course invitation.
Me: I did? But I thought I had emailed you to accept.
C: My assistant called to confirm and said you declined. Got business meeting or something.
Me: Eh? As far I can remember she called only to ask for my cost center. This is so confusing! Nevermind. I called to ask whether I could cancel last minute or not, because I have a meeting this Friday, and there’s so much to prepare. I guess I’ll join the course next time. Thanks!
I’m still confused. Because I remembered accepting to attend the course, and had the email to prove it. It's mysterious, what had I misunderstood during the phone call? Nevertheless, saya bersyukur yang amat. Thank you Allah for this relief. Alhamdulillah! Now back to work. Back to work. Breathe in, breathe out.
