Kuching and kucing
The other day, I shared a good news with Munief:
“Munief, insyaAllah, bulan Disember ni, kita pergi Kuching naik kapal terbang.”
Munief paused for a while before responding, “Kucing naik kapal terbang.”
How funny! An image of cats in planes immediately flashed in my mind, as it had, perhaps, in Munief’s. Sorry if I had confused you, my son.
Thinking again about this, reminds me how innocent a child's mind is. There is no preconceived notions, or mindset blocks. Nothing is impossible - even p**s can fly, why not? I once read that an adult would be more likely to be impressed by a magic show, compared to a child. To an adult, pulling a rabbit out of a hat is extraordinary, or 'magic', but to a child - well, the rabbit is cute of course but surely rabbits do stay in hats sometimes?
A child's mind is like an 'empty cup' (to quote the phrase used in The Forbidden Kingdom) or rather like a 'kain putih'. We, as parents have the daunting responsibility of painting the canvas. I always worry whether I'm doing things right or otherwise. May Allah guide me in this exciting journey.
